Lee Harrell, Hobo-style
Imágenes Jpeg
Descripción
This photo of Lee Harrell in hobo costume was taken during a sales promotion at the Belk-Lindsey store in Punta Gorda. Family lore tells that Robert Davis, store manager, trailed Mrs. Harrell through the store (with suspicion of shoplifting); it was only as he gently escorted the "bum" to the exit that Mr. Davis realized the shabbily dressed character was his own office-mate, the store's assistant manager.

The venerable sportsman's resort, which could accommodate forty guests, was also known as the National Hotel, Baxter House, and Beajim's Lodge at various times. Although it survived Hurricane Donna in 1960 (when it was the home of the Harrell family), it was lost to fire in 1965. The photo was taken by a Harrell cousin, Burl Keiser of Indiana, after the Harrells had vacated the property.
