This photo showing a group of men posed on the steps of a rustic lodge is noted, "Galloway Nature Club at Hauber's Camp. Reed Run, Potter Co. Pa." The Galloway Nature Club was organized in 1927 and remained active until 1946 when its founder, J.C. Galloway, retired. J.C. (Joseph Coombs) Galloway is seated in the center of the bottom row; the other men are not identified. Mr. Galloway was a noted naturalist who lived in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Hannah, had a winter home in Solana that became their year-round residence after Mr. Galloway's retirement.

This watercolored sketch of a hawk or kestrel was done by J.C. Galloway. J.C. (Joseph Coombs) Galloway was a noted naturalist from Port Allegany, Pennsylvania. He was also skilled in taxidermy. He and his wife, Hannah, had a winter retreat in Solana that became their year-round residence after Mr. Galloway's retirement in 1946.

This undated photo shows an original pencil sketch by naturalist J.C. Galloway. The drawing is noted "Pearl-fish - Carapus dubio in Holothuria floridana" and initialed by Galloway. "Holothuria floridana" is commonly called the Florida sea cucumber. Considered a delicacy in some Asian countries, sea cucumbers are echinoderms related to starfish and sea urchins that live on or near the ocean floor. Pearlfish are slender, translucent fish found in shallow tropical waters. They are noted for living in the bodies of invertabrates such as pearl oysters, starfish and sea cucumbers. J.C. (Joseph Coombs) Galloway was a noted naturalist and author who lived in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Hannah had a winter home in Solana that became their year-round residence after Mr. Galloway retired.
