Description
This photo is a copy of an original showing the front facade and west wing of the Hotel Charlotte Harbor. Opened in 1887 as the Hotel Punta Gorda, the grand resort was purchased by Barron Collier and Cornelius Vanderbilt in the 1920s. After renovations, it was reopened as the Hotel Charlotte Harbor. The elegant harborfront landmark was lost to fire in 1959.

Description
This photo of the Hotel Charlotte Harbor, a posh 150-room resort opened in 1887 as the Hotel Punta Gorda, was taken after the hotel had been purchased, enlarged, and remodeled in Mediterranean style by Cornelius Vanderbilt and Barron Collier. This grand focal point of the Punta Gorda waterfront was lost to fire in 1959.
