The Waterway Interpretive Signs Program was established in 2019 to recognize historical resources along the waterways that are significant in the areas of architecture, archaeology, Charlotte County history and traditional culture. As a coastal community, Charlotte County's history has been substantially shaped by its abundance of and easy access to waterways.

The purpose of the Historical Marker Program is to increase public awareness of the rich cultural heritage of our community, to encourage historic preservation, and to enhance the enjoyment of local historic sites for visitors and residents alike. You're invited to visit these sites or take the Heritage Landmark Virtual Tour.

Public suggestions regarding historical markers should be directed to Charlotte County History Services. For those who would like to sponsor a marker, the cost ranges from $1600 - $2300. Markers must meet the Heritage Landmark Criteria.
