Gr 9 Up-New readers will need to start from the beginning of this paranormal action/adventure series featuring the snarky Nick Gautier, a teen who's friends with a diverse group of vampires, shapeshifters, and other supernatural beings. Since discovering that a demon lives inside him, Nick struggles to fight his own nature and stay a few steps ahead of the powerful gods who want him dead. When his generals rise up, Nick must embrace his demon half and learn to control his powers or a new Malachai will be crowned and the world will end. A slow beginning, little plot development, and a rushed conclusion make this sixth installment feel like a setup for events to come. Too many secondary characters crowd the story line.
