A. C. Freeman House in Punta Gorda
Materia:
A.C. Freeman, Freeman House, Punta Gorda
Descripción:
This Victorian-style house was built by Augustus C. Freeman in 1903 at a cost of less than $900. At various times, Freeman served as City tax collector, a councilman, mayor, a DeSoto county commissioner, and was Sheriff of DeSoto County from 1905 to 1913. In 1985 the house was relocated from the corner of Marion Avenue and Booth Street to 639 East Hargreaves, the site pictured here, and later moved again to the corner of Cross Street (southbound U.S. 41) and Retta Esplanade in Punta Gorda where it is used as a welcome center shared by the Chamber of Commerce and the Punta Gorda Historical Society.
