Seed Library
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a beginner, the seed library offers a fantastic opportunity to learn more about sustainable gardening and native plants.
How it works
Visit any Charlotte County library branch. Choose up to 5 types of seeds from our collection. Don't worry, we have gardening tips from UF/IFAS Extension Charlotte County on hand, as well as information on each variety's best planting time, ideal light conditions, and perfect soil depth.
Bring the seeds you've selected to the front desk along with your library card. Take them home, plant with care, and watch your garden grow! Unlike a book, there is no need to return the seeds taken from our seed library.
If you have more questions, you can ask a Master Gardener. These volunteers visit our libraries regularly to offer expert advice.
Available seeds
Thanks to generous donations from national organizations like Sow Right Seeds and Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds as well as local partners like Lowe’s and Tractor Supply Co., you will be able to choose from a wide variety of seeds that grow well in our local climate. Options range from vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers to beautiful flowering plants like lavender and coneflowers.
Donating seeds
While you don’t have to return the seeds you check out, you can contribute to the seed library if you want! We accept donations of unopened seeds in their original packaging.
