About the Library

The Punta Gorda Public Library was founded in 1908. It was first located in the rectory of the Episcopal Church of Punta Gorda. Perpetually popular, the library outgrew its home several times, moving to new locations at the Masonic Lodge and the Women’s Club before dedicated buildings were built on Retta Esplanade and, later, on West Henry Street. In 2019, the Punta Gorda Library relocated to its current site on Shreve Street.

The Punta Gorda Charlotte Library is exceptional for its state-of-the-art technology, beautiful facilities, and vibrant community programs. With a collection of more than 50,000 items, it remains one of the county’s fastest-growing libraries. Come see us today!
