Adults (ages 18+) can also apply for a library card online. You will be issued a temporary User ID. Make sure to write it down! It will allow you to access digital resources immediately. You may also use your temporary ID to place holds through the catalog.

Temporary IDs are valid for 30 days. Then bring your photo ID and proof of residency to the library to obtain a permanent card.

We love to sign kids up for their very own library cards! It's a great tool to build early literacy and help get children excited about learning. And good news, parents--overdue kids' books are now fine free.

Children should apply for a card in person and must have a parent or legal guardian present.

Non-Charlotte County residents

Residents of Sarasota County or a participating SWFLN library may apply for a free reciprocal borrower card with Charlotte County by presenting photo ID and a library card in good standing with their home institution. SWFLN library patrons must also have a current SWFLN sticker provided by their home institution. A list of participating SWFLN institutions can be found here.

Non-residents who don’t qualify for reciprocal borrowing may purchase a card for:

  • $10 for 3 months
  • $20 for 6 months
  • $35 for 12 months

Hoopla and Kanopy are not available to reciprocal borrowers. Paid non-resident card holders can access all digital resources.
