Growing up in dive bars up and down the East Coast, Toni Bennette's guitar was her only companion...until she met Sebastian Quick. Seb was a little older, a lot wiser, and before long he was Toni's way out, promising they'd escape their stifling small town together. Then Seb turned eighteen and split without looking back.
Now, Toni's all grown up and making a name for herself in Philadelphia's indie scene. When a friend suggests she try out for a hot new up-and-coming band, Toni decides to take a chance. Strong, feminist, and fierce as fire, Toni B. and the Lillys are the perfect match...except Seb's now moonlighting as their manager. Whatever. Toni can handle it. No problem. Or it wouldn't be if Seb didn't still hold a piece of her heart...not to mention the key to her future.
"Fans of Daisy Jones & the Six will enjoy this rich, romantic novel."-- Booklist

Toni and Seb were childhood friends who bonded over playing music and had big plans to escape their small town together, but when Seb abruptly and mysteriously leaves her behind, Toni, heartbroken, has to find her own way. Almost a decade later, Toni is a talented up-and-coming working musician when she unexpectedly runs into Seb, now the manager for a famous rock band, the Lillys. Fate brings Seb and Toni closer together when a spot opens up for a guitarist in the band and Toni takes the job, forcing them both to reckon with their pasts and confront their undeniable attraction to each other. Although Axelrod (When Frankie Meets Johnnie) does eventually get to the happily-ever-after, the romance plot takes a backseat to the strong musical elements and the vast and well-developed cast of characters. Narrators Alexander Cendese and Tamika Simone do a good job voicing all the characters and their varied accents. VERDICT Recommended for fans of heartfelt, slow-burn contemporary romances and listeners interested in rock band storylines, strong women characters, and second-chance love.--Migdalia Jimenez, Chicago P.L.
